Bike Wreck - Portmore, Jamaica

Hello Everyone,
This week was pretty good. Other than me getting sick for Tuesday and Wednesday. I had to stay in it was so boring. Everyone here celebrates Good Friday and not Easter. Good Friday is the Savior's death. It is weird. They all party. Oh, I mean go to church. haha. It sounds like a party when they go to church. All the people we are teaching are doing really well. My patriarchal blessing said that on my mission I will teach people some of which don't know the ten commandments. DJ and Akeem didn't know the ten commandments. So that was cool. We got a member to take us fishing next p-day so that should be fun. There is one big hill in the middle of the city. One morning we hiked it with the bishop and the sister missionaries. It was pretty cool. We could see Kingston and our house and spanish town. On our bike ride home one of the elders cut me off on my bike. I crashed and went over my handle bars. I am fine. My bike is fine. I just have a huge bruise on my leg. It was crazy.

I had a cough and runny nose, but I'm better now. It wasn't zika.

Daryl is good. He has a tiny kid bike, and he rode it to a member's house. haha He looked so funny, but the member and him are great friends now. We watched the movie On The Lord's Errand  about Thomas Monson. He loved it.

Every sunday the members feed us. My favorite food is curried chicken. It is so good. The boys are doing good. Akeem is 13, he told his teacher about our church. So, they are doing good. Their mom and dad play xbox. I gave them Sayre's gamertag. Their mom usually plays cod. haha.

The best part of my week was seeing Daryl ride his tiny bike. He is 29 and pretty tall.

Lots of Crazy Animals and A Baptism! - Portmore, Jamaica

Hello everyone!

It has been a good week. It is getting a little hotter. We had a baptism yesterday. That was cool. We are working with a guy named Daryl to overcome smoking. He should get baptized next week. There are also two brothers that we are teaching They should get baptized soon. One of them is 13 his name is Akeem and his brother is 9 his name is DJ. They are way cool. I am trying to get the other elders to go fishing or crocodile hunting on a pday. There are crocodiles here. I haven't seen one yet. Over all a really good week. I got a package with the green socks and the circus animal crackers. YES!!!

I am good. The members are super cool. 

The members don't feed us anything too crazy.  It is mostly chicken. The best thing I ate this week was ox tail. It was good. It just tasted like beef.

Negril and Savanna La Mar were super small and spread out. Portmore is very residential and has less bush. 

There are a lot of messed up animals.

First PDay in Portmore, Jamaica

AHello everyone,

It has been a good but long week. The bus ride to Portmore was alright. They played the movie Journey to the Mysterious Island. haha My new comp is good. He taught me how to play Magic the Gathering. It is kind of like Pokemon. I was able to see some of the elders from the MTC on Thursday because the church historian came and talked to us and awnsered a bunch of questions on church history. They are doing a whole bunch of new stuff at the church history museum. They have a 260 degree movie that you can watch on the first vision and whole bunch of other cool stuff. The new house is nice just no hot water.The members are great! We got fed twice on Sunday. I thought I was going to explode. The bishop plays basketball with us in the mornings, so that is fun. I got Angie's package. There was lots of good stuff in it. There are a couple of packages in Montego Bay, because they thought I was still in Sav. I should get them soon. It was pretty good this week.

I went back to the bus park in Negril, and then left. The ward has about 130 people every week.

We have a baptism on Sunday, and one hopefully next week also. There are a bunch of others also.

The bike is good. I put the star wars sticker that you sent around Christmas on it. There is a font at our church building.

Yes, i saw Elly's hair. The town is a lot bigger and a lot nicer houses. It is 15 min away from Kingston

I live in a four man house. There are sisters in the area, also. 

The other elders are Elder Poe and Elder Davidsen.

The ocean is close, but it is nothing special.  I have enough money. Everything is holding up.

The best part of this area is probably the members. Negril was awesome! The water was as clear as a swimming pool, no joke.

6 Months Out - Headed to Portmore, Jamaica

Hello everyone!

 I am getting transferred to Portmore. It is next to Kingston. My new comp is going to be Elder Gardner. I have to take a big bus all the way to Kingston. We have to take the wheels off the bike to be able to transport it. It will be a 6 hour bus ride. So that should be fun. Sav is different. I don't now about George if he got baptized. I am getting some bike repairs today, but that should be enough money. This week has been pretty boring besides the transfer call.

Emergency Transfer! - Savanna La Mar

Hello everyone,

 It has been a crazy week. It all started Monday night when the zone leaders called me and said I am getting emergency transferred to Savanna la Mar. One of the elders there got sick. The next day they they took me there. On Wednesday we went on trade offs. The next day was elections day. So, we had to stay inside. Friday and Saturday were pretty normal. On Sunday, we learned that there was a miscount in the elections. There were riots all over the island, and we had to stay in that day too. We figured it out after church. My new companion is Elder Riding. He is from Rexburg. He is pretty cool. He watches the Arrow and stuff. It was pretty crazy, but it was fun.

I am ok. I wanted to at least say good by to the members and see George get baptized, but I'm excited. Elder Johnson is in a tri with Elder Porter and Elder Trinnamin. I got extra sleep on Thursday, because we had to stay inside. 

I am here for good, the other Elder went home. 

Savanna La Mar has a church building. I live in a 4 man house. There is hot water. It is kind of an older house. We are going to stop by the church on the way home the computer there is better to send pictures. 

I am pretty close to Negril so hopefully i can go back. It is a bigger town here.  There is a KFC here. haha  There are no white tourists in this town, though.

Cody told us about their shut in day. This is their breakfast, a Graham Fam specialty we call thin pancakes. I love them topped with fruit and whipped cream, looks like they skipped the fruit part and went straight for the fluffy stuff! The root beer is an added delicacy, I see.  

Epic Beard - Negril, Jamaica

Hello everyone!

This week was kind of slow. Everyone fell through. There was a lot of walking. We went to Brother Morris' house, and he showed us his beard that he keeps in a bag. He has kept since 1982. haha  He is so funny. I ,also, made curried chicken for the first time. It was so good. The bike is running well. We had zone conference on Friday. There was nothing to exciting. No packages, just a letter. IDK were all of the the Negril mail goes. I think it is in the office in Kingston. Over all a pretty good week.

I am doing good. weather is the same. hot and humid. we have to stay inside Thursday because it is election day and people get shot. It is pretty crazy

Do you have enough money and do you like getting our pictures?
I am good. I always have extra at the end of the month. I like getting pictures.


How are you really doing, mentally, spiritually, and physically?
I am good. Growing in all the above.

Any interesting animals?
There are hermit crabs all over the place. People use them for fish bait.

It has been good Elder Johnson is pretty cool. I got my new bike today. George really wants to get baptized in a river, so we are looking for one. He found his cat. haha. There aren't a lot of mosquitoes were we live which is good. We found a really cool investigator. He will probably be the next branch president. It does seem like a long time since I left. It has been good. I am just super tired. Negril is getting old. I will probably leave at the end of this transfer. Orlando came to church and so did a couple of less active members. Church was good. Brother Inis is still insane. It is sad to seem him in his crazy state. I can understand most people. I am trying to speak it, but the Jamaicans just laugh. haha

I am going to take some of the good parts off of my old bike and switch them out the try to sell it or something.

Elder Johnson likes to clean on pdays, but i think i convinced him to go to some cliffs by the ocean and explore.
