Week 6 - Still in Jamaica

Hello everyone!
I am still in Jamaica. Trying to understand Patwa (THE ASCENT / LANGUAGE EVERYONE SPEAKS) I will probably be in Negril for awhile. I am doing better and getting used to the culture. We are looking at one apartment that i think we will get it is pretty nice and has hot water! and a really nice view. We get our transfer calls this upcoming Saturday. I think my companion will get transferred, but u never know. I got sue's package with the Lego star wars thing in it. I am super excited to set it up. I wish could have gone hunting that deer looks tasty. haha. Thank you for all the emails. They are so great to read! I love you all.

Have fun in the states.
Elder Davis

P.S. Someone chained the dog up to our porch. We don't know whose it is. We rode in the back of a track to help a guy move. The last one is something they do when someone dies. They line the road with candles they do it from were they died to his house its kind of weird.

The double rainbow was yesterday. We named the dog elder.

We named the dog Elder.

People are different...Week 5

Today is pday it was hero day yesterday so they switched it to Tuesday this week. I am doing better still trying to adjust. The people are interesting. The rastas are so weird. One of them said he was Jesus and another one said he was God... idk. We are teaching some people that are really interested. Still no hot showers. There was one night when we didn't know were to go so we prayed about it. Then felt like we should go a certain way, and we ran into one of the guys we are teaching. He is super interested and said he would get baptized!
I love you all.
Enjoy america without me. haha
Elder Davis

I was able to message Brodey and he also said:
-I feel a little bit more adjusted but the biking sucks

-I got a full soda bottle thrown at my head while i was riding my bike, and people constantly yell at us.Ii try to ignore them and focus on the good people.

-I tried chicken feet soup and almost threw up. Luckily some guy gave be a bag and said to put what ever i didn't want in it. So that was good.

-The teenagers will pretend to jump out in front of us and stuff like that and little kids threw rocks at some other elders a couple of nights ago.

-I bought a package of hot dogs and some noodles and some beef i just find what ever i can.

-All of the rasta guys are insane... They are drunk and high almost all the time and they have some strange beliefs.

-The members are really cool. There are a couple of really old guys that are really funny. They do this little had shake where they pretend like they take your thumb and it is really weird
-I gave a talk the first two weeks, and we do teach every Sunday.

-The best part is seeing cool places and going to church and taking to the crazies.

-The worst part is biking and waking up early.

-I am in Jacob 2. I read in the morning and at night. the mission pres wants us to read 6 pages a day in order to read it in 100 days.

Negril, Jamaica - Week 4

Hello everyone!
i am finally in Jamaica. My area is Negril. It is way different than anything I had expected. People speak very differently here. They call it Patwa. I can't understand 80 percent of the people. The people just live in little shacks. There were these little kids we met the other day that were playing with broken bikes. They had more fun with the broken bikes than kids back home do with non broken bikes. The water in crystal clear. The ward was super small. There were 15 people there including the mission pres and 2 visitors and 4 elders. It was very different. We don't have hot water just cold. Cold showers, yay! I am doing pretty good just feeling a little home sick. There are goats and wild dogs everywhere. I love you guys!
Bye,
Elder Davis

I was able to message Brodey for a little while.
He also said:
-Some people are nice, but a lot of them think we are cia or fbi. Idk i try to roll with it sometimes haha. I got a bike but the chain keeps messing up so we we are going to try to fix it today. There is 4 the apartment isn’t to bad except for the cold showers

-I sleep on a bed just in a big room with 3 other beds in it. My belt is getting wet and putting a black stripe on them. I am trying to find another belt and a shoe shining kit

-Please send drink mix and snacks

-i went grocery shopping we mostly eat at home. The food is pretty good.

-It is beautiful here. It is jungle in a lot of places, and the water is crystal clear

-Everyday we try to teach the less active members and some investigators. then we go -finding. kind of like tracting

-If someone says something that sounds like wagwon it means what is going on it is really hard to understand people

-I know what marijuana smells like. At night everyone is smoking

-There are little lizards running all over the place

-There are big crabs everywhere but I’ve only seen dead one. i think they come out at night

-yup pretty much we are spoiled in America. It is crazy how people live down here

-Whenever it rains we make brownies and cinnamon rolls

-It rains like twice a week it depends if we are close to home we will go inside, if not we just get soaked,

-my companion is awesome he cooks every meal. I'm alright its just so different here

-He emails from the library every week.

-they drive on the wrong side of the road and the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car. and tons of motorcycles and mopeds

-Everywhere is poor and run down

-the shoes people wear are terrible

Dear Brother and Sister Davis,

We are happy to let you know your son arrived safely in Kingston, Jamaica.  He is in good spirits and arrived anxious to become involved in the great work being done here.  When he arrived Sister Brown and the Assistants met him at the airport and took him to breakfast.  The Assistants then brought him to the mission office and helped him with banking and immigration matters and then provided training and orientation.

He was then driven to Negril to meet his trainer, Elder Aguirre.where they will began the work he came here to do.  Your son will be serving in the Negril Branch.  As parents we can appreciate your concern for him and his welfare and felt you would like to know he is safe and doing fine.

We want to thank you for raising such a fine son and for your support for him while he is here.  Your support for the next few weeks while he may experience some homesickness will be very important.  The work is really beginning to blossom here in Jamaica and the people are warm and friendly.  We are confident he will have a special experience.  We can assure you we will do everything we can to help him grow and develop and are confident his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ will increase.  Through his mission experiences he will draw closer to our Savior.  We are so grateful to have him here.

Gratefully,
 Kevin G. BrownSister Nadine Brown

Jamaica - Here I come! Week 4

Hello everyone!
I am heading to Jamaica today... Finally! All of the elders that i have met, because i got sick, have made staying back worth it. Next time u get my emails I will be in Jamaica. Hopefully, I don't have to eat chicken feet. Everyone feel free to email me questions. The only crappy thing is that i have to travel by myself, but it will all work out.
